"I am originally from Maryland, where I grew up near the mountains. It is that backdrop which fueled my interest in nature. I have worked in both state parks and zoos, working with animals and the environment. As a child, I was always interested in art and in school I took every art class that was available.
After I got married and we had a son, we moved to Florida. It is here that I was able to return to two things I missed, art and nature. Nature Photography was the perfect meld of the two for me.
My experience in information technology helped me make the jump directly into digital photography. I am a pure product of the digital age, having never even touched a film SLR. I started with a Digital Rebel and a 70-200mm lens. Soon, I added a 100-400, and then got serious with the acquisition of a 1D and a 500mm f4.5.
As an avid outdoorsman, I will hike my gear into the muddiest, buggiest, hottest, most humid, unforgiving places Florida has to offer. Because even in those places there is beauty that the most people never get to see. I hope my work helps others understand and appreciate those places so that they can help protect them before they are gone.
For fellow photographers who may be interested, I shoot with Canon gear, all digital. I currently use a 1D Mark II and a 20D body, and my lens assortment includes a variety of lenses from 1mm through 500 mm. I also use ThinkTank Photo, Lowepro, Sekonic, Gitzo and Wimberley products, to name a few.
