I am now taking reservations for the "Weekend With Wolves" Nature Photography Workshop, which will be held December 5th - 7th, 2008, at the Seacrest Wolf Preserve, in Chipley FL. I will be joined by fellow award winning nature photographer Les Voorhis who will be co-leading this workshop

This is a unique experience to photograph these incredible creatures on the largest wolf preserve in the Southeastern United States. We have also timed this event for what we hope will be the peak of fall color in the area, this same time last year the trees put on an excellent show of color. Wolf Puppies Photography Workshop - May 17-18, 2008

I am now taking reservations for this spring's "Wolf Puppies" Photography Workshop at Seacrest Wolf Preserve. This is a unique experience to photograph wolf puppies on the largest wolf preserve in the Southeastern United States. Each full day includes two photo sessions with the wolf pups, morning and afternoon. These are not photo sessions shooting through a fence into distant enclosures; rather you will be in with the wolf pups where you will be able to capture amazing photos of these beautiful animals. Jason will be on hand providing instruction, tips, and techniques during your shooting and classroom sessions. In addition, each day will also include a photo session with other small animals at the preserve such as baby raccoon and skunk, opportunities to visit and photograph the resident wolf packs, a midday open topic classroom session, and an evening photo critique session. For more information or to register, please visit the "Wolf Puppies" Photography Workshop page.

NANPA Showcase Images and Judge's Award!

Each year the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) sponsors the "NANPA Showcase" competition, selecting the best nature photography from throughout North America. The judges look for the most creative, original, and skilled images that NANPA members have captured, and select the top 100 of these images to be in the annual NANPA Showcase.

This year, three of my images have been selected as part of the top 100, one of which, "Out of the Shadows - British Columbian Wolf", was selected as a Judges’ Choice Award award winner. Also selected in the top 100, are my photos "Pine Glades Lake Sunset - Everglades" and "Dance - Reddish Egret Canopy Hunting"

From the judge - "Dark, mysterious and unexpected - this is a striking vision of an animal we have seen many times before, but never like this. Although clearly taken of a captive animal, the image is no less creative or provocative. Does the piercing stare reinforce negative stereotypes of killer wolves? Perhaps, but it is still a well-crafted and original image that has haunted me since I first saw it."

Wolf Puppies Photo Shoot and Workshop, We are a go!

So who is interested in taking pictures of wolf pups up close and in person?

I have been working with a wolf preserve in Florida for the past few months, and they have approached me with a unique opportunity to do a one day shoot of wolf pups this spring.

We will have pups from two litters; one litter is just over a week older than the second. The pups are a mixture of colors; one set is from timber wolf parents, the other from British Columbia wolf parents. At the time of the shoot they will be very active, and ridiculously cute!

This is not a game farm, but rather a non-profit preserve, with multiple acre enclosures and natural habitat. The adult wolves are organized in packs, usually 6 adults, who engage in the full array of pack behaviors and social interaction. What is also extraordinarily cool about this place is that you shoot from within the enclosure, not through fences. Much of the proceeds from the photo shoot will go directly to the care of the wolves and education/conservation programs the preserve runs. Believe me this is a very special place, and the owners are some of the most caring champions for the preservation of wildlife I have ever had the privilege to meet.

We will shoot Saturday May 12th or Saturday May 19th. I can take seven people per day. If more than seven book, we will open up a second session on Saturday May 19th.
