ICF Pro-Tour 2008 Top 5 Winner!

I am very pleased to announce that I came in fourth place overall in the 2008 Images for Conservation Pro-tour competition, and had seven images in the top 100 (top 20 in each of 5 categories). I was the highest placing first-time competitor in this year's competition, and one of the few, if not only, top ten finishers that did not have an assistant during any part of the competition.

This competition draws photographers from around the world, and is extremely competitive and challenging. Photographers are individually paired with a Texas ranch where they live for a month photographing the wildlife and scenery on the ranch. At the end of the competition, each photographer submits a portfolio of 60 images covering five categories of wildlife and scenery which are judged by a panel of judges, whom are all noted photographers in their own right.

I was very fortunate to have been paired with the Pedrotti-Sorgenté Ranch for the competition, where in 30 days I captured over 14,000 images and observed dozens of species, many rare and endangered. The ranch was amazing in its biodiversity and beauty, and I am honored to have had the opportunity to photograph it.

Wild Photo Adventures TV - Upcoming Episode Co-host

I recently had the great opportunity to co-host three episodes of the forthcoming show "Wild Photo Adventures" hosted by fellow nature photographer and friend Doug Gardner. Doug's show is a great behind the scenes look at nature photography, taking the viewer to some of the best nature photography locations around the country. For Doug's shows in Florida, I guided him through some of my favorite places along Florida's Gulf Coast, from the beaches of Ft. De Soto to the Myakka Dry Prairie and River basin. I also got to play co-host to an episode featuring the manatees of Crystal River (check out the Manatee Photos in my galleries, they were all from this show!). The shows have now finished production and will be airing this summer throughout the southeast US on PBS, go to Doug's site "Wild Photo Adventures" for show times, . You can also view episodes of the show online at http://www.wildphotoadventures.com/watch.html

From Doug's site -

Each week tag along with host Doug Gardner through adverse conditions and terrain in search of that one great photograph. Take a look behind the scenes at what it takes to be a professional nature photographer. Learn new tips and techniques that will bring life back into your photographs.

Wild Photo Adventures is the first wildlife and nature photography television show of it's kind to ever be aired. Join us each week as we travel around the globe to great locations to photograph wildlife, it's behavior and it's environment. Each week we will show you where to go, how to find wild subjects and how to photograph them in new and creative ways. Whether it's Grizzlies in Alaska, Utah's Canyon's, waterfowl of the East Coast or poisonous snakes in the Amazon; Wild Photo Adventures delivers exciting and educational entertainment for anyone who has a love for the great outdoors.

NANPA Showcase Images and Judge's Award!

Each year the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) sponsors the "NANPA Showcase" competition, selecting the best nature photography from throughout North America. The judges look for the most creative, original, and skilled images that NANPA members have captured, and select the top 100 of these images to be in the annual NANPA Showcase.

This year, three of my images have been selected as part of the top 100, one of which, "Out of the Shadows - British Columbian Wolf", was selected as a Judges’ Choice Award award winner. Also selected in the top 100, are my photos "Pine Glades Lake Sunset - Everglades" and "Dance - Reddish Egret Canopy Hunting"

From the judge - "Dark, mysterious and unexpected - this is a striking vision of an animal we have seen many times before, but never like this. Although clearly taken of a captive animal, the image is no less creative or provocative. Does the piercing stare reinforce negative stereotypes of killer wolves? Perhaps, but it is still a well-crafted and original image that has haunted me since I first saw it."
