I am guessing you clicked on this page because you are interested in learning more about nature photography. Maybe you have searched all over the internet, read a bunch of books, even (gasp :) ) read your camera's manual, but are either still not happy with your images, or have questions about nature photography you just haven't been able to find answers to.
That's why we are here.
A while back I was in much the same boat, trying to grow as a nature photographer and take my outdoor photography to the next level. There are loads of great photography sites, and an amazing variety of great photographers who openly share their thoughts and techniques. Unfortunately, there is also a lot of contradictory information, or articles that are heavily slanted by the interests or opinions of the writer. Try finding a rational argument on the web of Nikon vs. Canon cameras, or a discussion of any digital camera body or lens that doesn't devolve into an exercise of people sitting in their basements taking detailed pictures of newspapers stapled to the wall and complaining about the sharpness of them.
That is not how nature photography is supposed to work.
To me photography is an exercise in the artistic, using technology as a tool to create images of the natural world. The goal of my workshops is, and will always be, to make the technical side of photography intuitive, so you aren't fumbling with buttons and settings when the time comes to make the shot. We learn by doing, experimenting, making mistakes, getting muddy, and just being out there loving what we do.
That is what it's all about, getting out there and doing it!
The point of our workshops is for you to learn by doing. We offer both one-on-one nature photography instruction and group workshop that are out in the field, the great outdoors in all its glory, experiencing nature to its fullest, the only place where you can capture all those amazing moments of the natural world in action.
The natural world is our classroom, this is where we truly learn and grow as photographers.
Our commitment to you, the workshop student, is that we are here to help you become the photographer you want to be, making the images you want to make. We don't put our work and knowledge up on a pedestal. What we believe is that we have a lot of hard-won knowledge and experience to share, and that our work conveys a sense of expertise, artistic vision, and a passion for nature and photography. Great photographers aren't always great teachers, and when you look for a workshop it is important to gauge not just the instructor's portfolio, but how well they are able to teach you new skills, and identify your needs as a student. We believe we are able to do both; make great photos and teach you how to do so as well. And in our "classroom" there are no photography topics that are off limits. Ask whatever you want, we'll tell you what we know or our opinion on the matter. And if we don't know, we'll tell you that, too, then find you the answer.
On our workshops our picture taking is not the focus, yours is.
While we will carry a camera and shoot some, it is never our first priority, your questions and instruction are. So if we happen to be looking through the viewfinder when you have a question, don't wait for us to stop, ASK!
Our belief is the workshop doesn't end when you go home that day.
We are always only an email or phone call away. Let's face it, we can each only retain so much, and frankly your day(s) in the field with us will be long and chock full of good info. But, a day or week or month later, you are going to say to yourself, "What was that thing he said about the settings of the whatzit on the thingamajig...?" Call us, email us, send us a smoke signal, that is why we are here.
Our one-on-one workshops are all about you, helping you take your nature photography to a new level.
